Celtic Women Sheboygan Branch Update October 20, 2010

Sunday, October 17th.   Our Samhain potluck and gathering was a success.

We had 9 members in attendance with 6 of their spouses .  Debbie and Mike O'Grady,  Kathy and David Schemrich, Toni and John Nevicosi, Joan and Richard Kramer, Peggy and Bob Feider, Rosalie Hartmann, Dorothy Rose, Janet and Richard Bieschke and myself.

And in addition to us,  Heaven only knows how many of our ancestors.   Five of us brought placemats  (or the beginnings of them) to put on the bar at Rhine Plymouth to provide a place for them and invoke their memory.

We feasted on coleslaw, brown breads, Mushroom/Guiness Pie, Irish Beef and buns, squash fresh from the garden, colcannon,  potato soup, pumpkin pie, warm cider and other libations.

We had activities planned but did not have to use them as everybody was having so much fun just talking.

We finished by going over tentative plans for next years activities.

Of course, our last meeting this year will be our annual Christmas Tea.   As we know this is a nice win/win for us, for the Plymouth History Museum and for the Sheboygan County Historical Research Center.    The Plymouth History Museum provides the site,   SCHRC provides the advertisement and the entertainment and we provide the snacks.     This year Beth Dipple will be asking for a donation (suggested $3.) to help allay the cost of the entertainment.   We have booked  Theiss and O Connor to provide the entertainment.    They are spectacular- have performed at the Plymouth Art Center, the Sheboygan County Museum AND Irishfest.    Yippee!!

So Be sure your calendar is clear for December 4th from 2 to 4 with a snow date of December 11 same time.

Then next year, we have the following in mind,  review, feel free to comment or to add to the mix:

January -  Hopefully an explanation and demonstration of Irish Dance
(Alternate - maybe we can bake again.   We all loved that evening.)

February:   A number of us are going on the Bridget Trip.  ( We still have a space or two if you can come).  Those who go would like to share our adventures.

March:   Let's all meet at the Exchange Bank.  Then carpool up to the corner of Eastern Avenue                    and Highland to be a BIG  part of the Irishman's Walk.    We will plan where to eat lunch etc later.  I want to come up with a connection with 52 Stafford if I can.

April:   The last weekend in April is the International Celtic Women meeting.   We are gathering at                 Galena this year.  Three years ago we were there and it is a GREAT place for the Celtic.

May.    Joan Kramer would like to plan a book review/discussion meeting.   I will defer to her.

June:  June 16th is Bloomsday.    There are a couple of things that can be incorporated.   Debbie  and I are thinking of a Celtic Tea patterned on a book of Celtic Teas that we both have.   I  also have a small probablility of having a speaker come to tell us about Bloomsday   itself.   Last year a reporter asked if we knew of any Bloomsday celebrations in the county.    ( I am deliberately trying to pique your curiosity.  Bloomday has to do with  Robert Burns and Ulyssis. and is a world wide event.)
July:    Who knows

August:   We have three Celtic events already in place.  Perhaps we can arrange carpooling.

                1.  Maybe. If Beth reinstates the Reunion of the Clans at St. Michael's we                                    will all be welcome.
                2,   Milwaukee Irish Fest - August 18-August 21.
                3.   The Highland Games - info to follow

September:  I think the Highland games are actually in September?

October:   Samhain.   We can't pass this up.  I hope that EVERYBODY can come next year.   It is   special.  I think because we invite our ancestors and they are SUCH fun.

December:   The Christmas Tea again - Dates to follow.  Who cares this far ahead.

Aren't we just about the most exciting people you know?

So what do you think?   Send ideas and suggestions as we are very flexible and want to appeal to everyone.

God love you and Slainte
