We all know that March 17th is St. Patrick's Day. We, as Celtic Women, will again march as a group in the annual Irishman's Walk in Plymouth. We will meet between 9:30 and 10AM at the Exchange Bank for scones and coffee and then car pool up to the Family Video at Eastern and Hwy C to join the walkers at 11AM to march from there down to 52 Stafford. At 52 Stafford, we will enjoy our shot of Jamison and perhaps partake of a meal together.
FYI: March 4-5 and 11-12 at 7:30PM each of these evenings, at "Shamrocks and Shenanigans 6," An Irish Music Show will be coming to the PAC, Plymouth Art Center. This is an excellent way to get a head start of Irish Music in a friendly well presented program directed by Mary Calvey. Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door. Snacks are included and there will be a cash bar.
March 16, at 7PM at 52 Stafford, Blarney will be entertaining at the Inn as they have for many many years. Come and enjoy the fun. This would be the first year I would not have to put up with the smoke.
CELTIC WOMEN INTERNATIONAL BRIGID/IMBOLC TOUR
For those of you who were able to come last Sunday, February 27th, when Debbie O'Grady, Joan Brigham, Joan and Richard Kramer and I shared pictures, stories, reflections and memories of our first Celtic Women trip to Ireland, we thank you. As you know, we went to celebrate Brigid, the saint and the goddess and what a tour it was. Brigid Day is February 1st.
Brigid was with us all through the tour, it seemed that nothing could go wrong. We were always in the right place at the right time and met the right people
All who attended the presentation on Sunday were part of a sharing of the Brigid Flame, the flame taken from the eternal flame at Solas Brede is being carried by us around the world to spread the message of peace and justice. We also shared water from the Brigid Holy Wells that we visited.

March 1 is St. David's Day (Welsh: Dydd Gwyl Dewi Sant). Saint David (c. 520 -c 601) is the patron saint of Wales He is the only Welsh saint to be canonized in the Western Church. He has been patron saint of Wales since the 12th Century. Little is known about him, much of it tradition. For example he and the monks in his monasteries were supposed to have drunk only water and were vegetarians. He is featured in many legends including a tie to King Arthur and even a sea monster. His existence proves that Christianity in Wales persisted intact since Roman times. He is also the patron saint of doves and poets. Leeks and/or daffodils are his symbols. March 5 is St. Piran's Day (Cornish). St. Piran is the patron saint of tin-miners. He is also regarded as the patron saint of Cornwall. His flag is a white cross on a black background. Little is known about him. It is believed that he was born in Ireland and had ties with St. Kieran.
Legand has it that Irish pagans tied him to a mill-stone, rolled it over the edge of a cliff into a stormy sea, which immediately became calm, and he sailed the mill- stone over the water to land upon the sandy beach of Perranzabuloe in Cornwall. St Piran appears to have sailed to Cornwall, and landed on Perran Beach, where he built St Piran's Oratory, in the Irish style with the heads of a man, a woman and a beast around the arched doorway The priest's house is built inside the graveyard. April 29-May 1 - The Annual CWI Gathering will return to Galena and The Irish Cottage. A block of rooms has been set aside for us, available on a "first come first served" basis at the rate of $119 per night plus tax. Call the Irish Cottage at 866.284.7474 and tell them that you wish to reserve a room in the Celtic Women Spring Gathering reserved block. Rooms must be reserved by March 31 to get this rate. Note that ANY reservation involving a Saturday night is subject to a 2 night minimum. A nice Irish breakfast is included with your room.
The Gathering activities are being planned, but will include wine & cheese reception and introductions, music, poetry readings, programs, with options such as a trip up to Mineral Point, Wisconsin, the Sinsinawa labyrinth, wine tastings, historical tours, and more. CWI gatherings are always "stranger-friendly" - come alone and leave with lots of new friends!
Cost of the gathering will be in the newsletter which is scheduled out next weekend. A grand event I hope you can all come.
