Samhain - and Beyond Until 2013
The Samhain celebration on Sunday evening was very special. There were 13 of us. Isn't that a spiritual number? Thirteen seems to signify bad luck but remember there were 13 people at the main table at the Last Supper.
We were all in place by 5PM. Wonderful food was presented. Peggy F brought Reuben Sliders and her husband, Bob. Joan Kramer brought Brown Soda Bread with seeds and her husband Richard. Peg P. brought a super pumpkin dessert. Janet B brought a pumpkin frozen pie with Ice cream and her husband Richard. Joan S. brought a Stroganoff. Joan Brigham brought a sweet potato casserole. LuAnn CB brought a chicken rice casserole and her husband Bill. I brought Colcannon and my friend Bob Fleming.
We had a touch of wine, a touch of tea and coffee. We welcomed our ancestors and I believe they were delighted to be there with us. Peg P. read two lovely blessings before the meal. The one, which I can't remember all of, is to be said when entering a home. Bless all who are under this roof.
We ended by sharing our superstitions and stories of the unexplained in our lives. Several are skeptics and this is logical and good. Others are true believers. It was at this point we counted the guests and found that we were 13.
This is a wonderful way to remember that we are entering Samhain. Samhain is the dark time of the year and meant for renewal and repair. Study on that as a Celtic woman and you will find peace.
FUTURE
NOVEMBER 10, 2012 at UCC from 2:00PM to 4PM.
Our next event will be the book discussion group. We are meeting again at the 1st Congregational Church. Thank you UCC and thank you Dorothy for arranging this for us. Joan Kramer will lead the discussion.
We have been reading the Legend of the Celtic Stone by Michael Phillips. I will be bringing a song about one section of the book and a newspaper article that may also start a conversation.
If you have not read it, come anyway. It may inspire you to read it and you can be in on the choosing of the next book for discussion.
DECEMBER 8, 2012 from 1PM to 3PM at the Plymouth History Museum at 420 E. Mill Street, in Plymouth we will be celebrating our 7th Christmas Tea. The Plymouth History Museum provides the place, Sheboygan County Historical Research Center provides the entertainment and most of the advertising and we, Celtic Women, bring food and tea. Cook up your favorite Christmas cookies, bars and/or breads. I ALWAYS bring the Irish Brown Bread.
This year, Jeff Ward from Milwaukee will be our entertainment. He has a voice to melt your heart. Please come to see that I am right. I am going to ask him to sing Steal Away for us.
So that takes care of us through the end of 2012. I hope that what we are doing is happy for all of you. Often, we have managed to get hooked up with a Celtic event in Sheboygan County and it has been good for us. How about the Irish Family Day at The John Michael Kohler Arts Center and the concert at the Plymouth Arts Center earlier in October by CAIM - Heather Hamill of Scotland and Jacynth Ennis if Northern Ireland. These two ladies are now members of our international group.
So Until the 10th of November may you be blessed with good fortune.
