52 Stafford sponsors its Irishman's Walk on St.
Patrick's Day every year. It is always on St. Patrick's
Day. Tradition you know. When I worked, I always
took the day off and made a two day affair of it. Dick and I
would book a room at the Stafford for the nights of the 16th
and the 17th so that we would be there for the whole event.
I understand that Blarney will not be there on the 16th this
year but the Walk is as it always is.
The Currant has a detailed agenda. I will also put it
here. Walkers meet at 10:30AM at the corner of Eastern
Avenue and Highland in the Family Video lot. At 11AM the
walk begins. Men, women and children dressed in their vest
Irish Regalia. Some have their dogs with them too. Last
year there were some Green Chickens in front of 52 Stafford
when the marchers arrived. 52 Stafford will be open all
day with Irish Food and traditional Irish Music.
Our Celtic Women will meet at the Exchange Bank Coffee
House which is across the street from 52 Stafford on the
corner of Mill Street and Stafford Street. We will have a
meeting and then look for transportation (usually we can
hitch a ride) or we walk up to the walk beginning site.
This year I will be unable to walk. I will be delighted to
transport marchers if needed and will reserve a place for us
for lunch after the parade. I do not have the banner this
year, so we should all wear our Tartan so stand out in the
crowd. I hope the weather is good. It is too soon to
know. The walk happens no matter what - The past couple
of years have been pretty good. Let us all pray for sun
and no wind.
I hope we have a good turnout - it has been a long dry spell
for meetings.
FYI:
Mary Calvey is putting on her annual Shamrocks and Shenanigans
at the Plymouth Arts Center Friday, March 14th at 7:30PM,
Saturday March 16 at 2:00PM and again at 7:30PM. Nancy
Roehre and I are going on Friday Night.
The Current also has a really nice article about us along with
their other Irish articles. It was Very Nice. I hope we
get some interest from it.
The Annual Gathering of Celtic Women International is the
weekend of April 26-28 in Lincolnshire IL. The newsletter
will be out by Monday with details and I will bring them to
the March 17th meeting at the Exchange Bank. Looks exciting
to me.
Joan Kramer will be leading our book discussion group on May
17th. We are reading An Irish Country Doctor by Patrick
Taylor. Delightful - the first of a series.
June 16th is Bloomsday. Look for more on this. I am trying
to make it exciting.
There were four of us at the Movie night with John Wayne's
Quiet Man. We can have more as several of us have some
really really good Irish movies but I was a bit surprised that
there were not more people there. Can you let me know if you
have something that you would like to do, a speaker you might
like to hear, or perhaps an event we can take a road trip to.
This winter has been long and cold. Lets get some of our
Irish warmth spread around and the Joy of the Irish in our
hearts.
