Sheb. Co. CWI Newsletter August
An August Summary for you along with a glimmer of what is ahead.
From August 13 to August 17, The Cornish from Milwaukee and around the world gathered at the Zelazo Center of UW Milwaukee to celebrate all things Cornish. Felicia Rosland Reindl and I attended a Cornish Pasty Dinner followed by a Cornish Concert put on by the Milwaukee Festival Brass. We were blown away. We spent that evening sharing a spectacular pasty supper while meeting some dynamic Cornish people. One of our table mates was a man named Art who has served the poor all over the world in the third world countries. Got to see Tommy O'Hagan and her Bob too.
On Sunday, LuAnn Cleary-Benninghaus, Felicia, Kathy Paul and I carpooled to the Milwaukee Irish Fest. We arrived early so as to be able to attend the Mass of Peace and Justice. The presider was Bishop Richard B. Higgins one of the five bishops that serve the United States Military. He is quite a preacher. He gave us all an assignment. Think of all that you consider evil in this world. Then pick one of them and do something about it.
We attended the Armagh Rhymers show at the Children's Stage. It was a pleasure to see them as it brought memories of their special show for the Brigit Tour members in Armagh. I talked to one of the ladies and she remembered them doing the show for us too.
The rest of the day, sometimes together, sometimes apart, we checked out the markets, noshed on the food, (notably at the Tipperary Tea room where we enjoyed the music of Searson) and listening to various bands. At 4PM we joined the other Celtic Women and marched in the parade. Did you know that Gail's Tom McAleese is the Shamrock Clubs Man of the Year. Good choice. We would have liked more marchers, but we were enthusiastic and well received About halfway around, an Australian gentlemen slightly in his cups but lots of fun walked and waved with us too.
I introduced Kathy and Felicia to Mead (I always drink one at the Fest) and an Irish Coffee with a sweet (I always enjoy that too. A full day of fun, the food, the music and the craic.

Second: The Highland Games in Waukesha are over the Labor Day weekend. Find out more at wisconsinscottish.org.
(I will be unable to attend either of the above because of previous commitments.)
Third: FYI - I will be in Scotland, with several of our Celtic Women, from September 11th until September 25. Will bring home lots of pictures and stories. We will be there when the vote for independence takes place. I am awed that we will be there for such a monumentally historic event.
Fourth: FYI - On September 27th from 1PM to 4PM at the Glas Haus in Sheboygan, I will be participating in a yearly event called 100 Thousand Poets for Change. For more information go to http://www.100tpc.org/.
Fifth: IBAM (Irish Books Art Music. October 3-5 - An annual event held at the Irish American Heritage Center in Chicago. Celtic Women International (because of Maureen Smith's work and influence) hosts an all day series of lectures - the Literary Corner - for the two days. I have some flyers if you would like or you can go to ibamchicago.com for more information. Things are still falling in place, so it pays to check the site often. Joan Kramer, Maureen Smith and I will all be doing presentations in the Literary Corner. A group of us will be leaving on Friday so that we can partake of as much of the event and each other as we can. Contact me if you are thinking of coming.
Sixth: The Sheboygan Branch of Celtic Women International will enjoy our 7th Samhain Pot Lunch on Sunday, October 26th. The time and place and more details will be forwarded next month. But remember, we invite our significant others, our friends and our ancestors and bring stories of your ancestors and your interactions with them, especially recently.
WHEW - Guess that is enough, don't you?
Hope your days are full of only good things.
