Boy
did we eat good at our Samhain dinner!!!
We
met at Robbi Dyer's home at noon on that Thursday. Robbi, her
husband Curtis, Charles and Loretta Donaugh, John Kennedy, Patty
Dawes, Mary Kunert (me) and my daughter, Leslie Smith and her
husband Bill. We feasted on corned beef brisket, Colcannon, Irish
cheeses and bread and Pumpkin pudding. Robbie supplied a variety
of teas both cold and hot.
John
shared documents and certificates of his Irish family settling here
in Oklahoma. I gave a bit of a rundown of the Celtic calendar and
noted that Samhain is the root of the American Halloween. I even
carved and original Jack O Lantern. No pumpkins in Ireland they
used rutabagas or turnips.
We
shared stories and fun and went home satisfied.
Our
next meeting will be on Thursday November 17, back at the Center for
Creative Living. Patty Dawes will be talking to us about the
Irish in Oklahoma. We have so much knowledge in our group.
Hope
to see you all there. Will send out a reminder closer to the event.
