February Update 2/24/2012

February 21, 2012

The Book discussion last Saturday was truly special. There were 10 of us at Joan Schwabe's lovely home for the gathering. She had a table full of yummy treats for us, cookies, a cheese ball and crackers, a cherry fruit bread and a nummy dessert kind of like a cheesecake with strawberries. We also had tea and other libations to enjoy.

We fully discussed the books that we had chosen for this time period. We all agreed that Wild Girls is not really too good for a book study as a lot of time needs to be spent on each chapter, if you are going to get the most out of it. We took activity at the end of chapter 5 – For each letter of the alphabet, write one word that describes your best qualities - and went around describing ourselves taking turns with the alphabet. We are a strong, confident group of women, I can tell you from our descriptions of ourselves.

We also discussed generally, the books by John O'Donohue, Anam Cara, Eternal Echos and To Bless the Space Between us. These books are perfect for a daily meditation. They are written by a priest and poet.

We decided that we will read and discuss The Last of the Donkey Pilgrims by Kevin O Hara for our next selection. Debbie O'Grady and I had the opportunity to meet him last year at IBAM in Chicago. It is marvelous and those of us who went on the Brigid trip will recognize many of the places he mentions. The next meeting will be in May. Details later.

Two month schedule of meetings and and/or events to keep in mind:

March 1 UW Sheboygan will be holding a reception for the Art Exhibit of the art of Keary Kauzer, the husband of Jane Kautzer, one of our new members. The reception is from5 to 7 and his work will be shown until March 31st.

March 5, St. Piran’s Day - March 5th

Saint Piran or Perran (traditionally in Cornwall, saints are simply named, without this title) (Cornish: Peran) is an early 6th century Cornish abbot and saint, supposedly of Irish origin.
He is the patron saint of tin-miners, and is also generally regarded as the patron saint of Cornwall,
Saint Piran's Flag is a white cross on a black background. Saint Piran's Day takes place on the 5th of March. The International CWI Newsletter has more information on St. Piran.
March 17, the Sheboygan County Branch of CWI and any others who would like to join us, will be participating in the annual Irishman's Walk in Plymouth. We will meet at the Exchange Bank, in Plymouth, located at 301 E. Mill Street, Plymouth at 10AM for our meeting. Then we will car pool, or walk to Pleasant View and Eastern Avenue to join the Irishman's Walk. If you cannot make the meeting you can meet us there. We may have some delicate flowers, if the weather is bad or if the walk is too difficult. They can hold down the fort at 52 Stafford for us as we will lunch together and tables would be nice.

March 23, Eileen Ivers will be appearing at the Milwaukee Symphony from March 23 through 25th. A number of us are going to see her on Sunday, March 25 for the 2:30PM performance. You can order tickets from Stacy Mills:
