March Newsletter
March 21, 2012
March 22 was the first day of the Spring Equinox. For those of us who have the Perpetual Calendar designed and printed by Cindy Matyi and Dorothy Whelan, that is time to change the page on the calendar.
We need to be looking forward to the newness of the earth as spring flows into summer. We need to let it flow into us too. Not too hard this year with the lovely warm weather we are having and the promise of green on our bushes and trees.
The St. Patrick's Day Walk in Plymouth was well attended and not only by Celtic Women. The weather brought Irish people out in droves. Joan Schwabe sent pictures - I will send a couple for the email people.
Several of us met at the Exchange Bank for a short meeting before the walk. They had just taken a batch of blueberry scones out of their oven, so I had a coffee and a scone while we met. We reviewed a few things for the next meetings and Joan answered some questions about the Spring Gathering/Annual Meeting, April 27/28/29 at Woodlake in Kohler. I will list the next three meetings at the end of this update.
Peggy, Felicia, Mary B. and myself decided to walk up to the parade site at Highland and Eastern Avenue. We were just a block away when we saw the walk starting to head towards us. It shortened our uphill walk a bit and we slid in to the parade with all of the other Celtic Women marchers who got there ahead of us. We carried our banner proudly and all arrived safely at 52 Stafford. We enjoyed the sunshine and the wonderful Spirit of the Irish as we proudly strutted ourselves along, waving at the people who were lined along the streets to greet us.
Arriving at the Stafford, we all piled in and claimed our shot of whiskey. Then some of the crowd stayed there for lunch and the music and some of us trotted down the street to Antoinette's for lunch where it was a bit quieter. I opted for that as I felt it would be easier for me to break away as I had to be home to check on Dick by 2PM. Poor me. But the hours spent in the fresh air and with my Celtic Sisters were very therapeutic. Thank you all.
So. Here is the schedule of meetings for the next three months.
April 27/28/29 The Annual Meeting/Spring Gathering. Contact Dorothy Rose at phone number 920-912-1996 or swimmer1R@yahoo.com for details if you do not have the email or snail mail newsletter or updates. Remember that March 28th is the deadline for the special rate at the Inn on Wooklake.
May 12, Saturday – The quarterly book club meeting at Joan Kramer's. We are currently reading The Last of the Donkey Pilgrims by Kevin O Hara. You have time, if you haven't read it, and will love it.
June 16th. Again a Saturday is the real Bloomsday. I will again arrange with Shawn O'Dwanny at 52 Stafford for us to celebrate it there. I am studying the book in my “spare time”. I hope to combine with others to read passages from the book as in done at all the other Bloomsday celebrations all over the world.
Join the greatest women's group in the world.
